FORWARD Young People Speak Out Project - The Second Phase

The Foundation for Women's Health, Research and Development (FORWARD) is an international non-governmental organisation that works to advance the sexual and reproductive health and human rights of African girls and women.

FORWARD works to promote action to bring about positive social change to enhance the well-being and protect the dignity of African girls and women globally. FORWARD is committed to eliminating harmful gender-based discriminatory practices that violate the sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women, such as female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage.

FORWARD is seeking young Africans between the ages of 16 and 25 preferably living in the boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Westminster for their Young People Speak Out Project to campaign against violence against girls and women particularly FGM and Child & Forced Marriages. The project will begin this summer and will be divided into 10 sessions over three to four months .The timetable of the sessions to be decided on by the group in the consultation meeting.

The project will be an opportunity to meet other likeminded young people campaigning for change within their community. The project requires candidates to be committed, reliable, willing to embrace challenges and work well independently and as well as part of a team. Previous experience is not essential and applications from both sexes are welcome.

The aim of the project is to train each candidate as a campaigner on the issues that FORWARD works on. The skills gained will enable the young people to campaign against violence against African girls women within their community and around the UK. The training will take place in West London and travel expenses and food will be covered.

Successful candidates from the previous project have recently been selected by The British Council to work on the UN Development Goals both in Nigeria and Ethiopia.
