Safeguarding children affected by gang activity
Following a number of requests to respond to the safeguarding of children affected by gang activity in London, the London Safeguarding Children Board has agreed to produce a supplementary procedure to assist professionals in responding to this increasingly common issue. This procedure will be developed in partnership with the Youth Justice Board, and a steering group has been set up to help lead on this work.
The first meeting of this group took place on Wednesday February 13th 2008, where a basic first draft was discussed. This draft is currently being considered by the group in advance of its April meeting, and will be circulated for London wide consultation once the steering group are satisfied with its content.

If you would like more information about this work, please contact ian.dean@londoncouncils.gov.uk. Unfortunately, the steering group is currently oversubscribed - however, please do contact Ian if you feel you have particular expertise that you feel this work would benefit from, and we will do our best to ensure that your views are considered.
Finally, if you are aware of procedures / protocols developed by your Local Safeguarding Children Board or elsewhere that could usefully inform guidance for London, we would be very grateful if you could send a copy to us.
